When you leave a comment on Reader Girl, we collect:

  • The information you provide (name, email address, and comment text)

Once your comment is approved, it will be publicly visible along with your name and profile picture (if applicable).

Media

Uploaded Images & Location Data

Photos from smartphones and cameras often contain embedded location information (EXIF data). If you upload images to Reader Girl, visitors could potentially extract this location data.

To protect your privacy: Remove location data from images before uploading, or disable location services on your camera.

Cookies

We use cookies (small files stored in your browser) to make Reader Girl easier to use. Here’s what we store and why:

Comment Cookies
When you leave a comment, you can choose to save your name, email, and website so you don’t have to re-enter them next time. These cookies last one year and are completely optional.

Login Cookies
If you log in to Reader Girl, we’ll save cookies to:

  • Keep you logged in (2 days, or 2 weeks if you select “Remember Me”)
  • Remember your display preferences (1 year)
  • Track which post you’re editing (1 day, contains no personal data)

We also set a temporary test cookie when you visit the login page to make sure your browser accepts cookies. This disappears when you close your browser.

All login cookies are removed when you log out.

Embedded content from other websites

Reader Girl posts may include embedded content from other sites—such as YouTube videos, Instagram posts, book trailers, or articles.

What you should know:
When you view or interact with embedded content, it works the same as if you visited that website directly. The third-party site may:

  • Collect data about you
  • Use cookies
  • Track your interactions with the content
  • Monitor your activity if you’re logged in to their service

We don’t control how these third-party websites handle your data. If you have privacy concerns, we recommend reviewing their privacy policies.

Who we share your data with

We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

Your data may be processed by:

  • Gravatar (for profile pictures in comments)
  • Automated spam detection services (for comment moderation)

Password Resets
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email for security purposes. This helps confirm the request is legitimate and protects your account.

How we retain your data

Comments
Comments you leave on Reader Girl are retained indefinitely along with their metadata (name, email, timestamp). This allows us to automatically approve your future comments instead of holding them for moderation each time.

Newsletter Subscriptions
We retain your email address and subscription preferences until you unsubscribe.

User Account Information
If you register for an account, we store the personal information in your user profile. You can view, edit, or delete your information at any time through your account settings. The only exception is your username, which cannot be changed once set. Website administrators can also access and edit account information when necessary.

Where your data is sent

Spam Detection
Visitor comments are checked through an automated spam detection service to protect our community from spam and malicious content.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Request a copy of your personal data
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time

To exercise these rights, use the unsubscribe link in newsletter emails, edit your account settings, or contact us directly.
